As you may know, we are looking for an institutional partner to help collect national use cases on micro-credentials in Asia-Pacific. This is an exciting area of work and we welcome your active engagement. We have a great shortlist of authors standing by and will need a partner to help administer small contracts in the Asia-Pacific region.
To submit a proposal, see the details online and submit by 24 October:
Collecting National Use Cases of Micro-credentials: Building Consensus for Fair Recognition in Asia and the Pacific
Submit a brief offer comprising of:
- A cover letter and technical proposal describing how the organization proposes to develop the key deliverables, including the approach and methodology; and;
- A financial proposal. Financial estimates should include any detailed fees.
The technical proposal and financial proposal should be attached in an email to UNESCO Bangkok in two separate files and sent to the following email address no later than 5 p.m. on 24 October 2022: eisd.bgk@unesco.org.

Warm greetings and thank you from UNESCO Bangkok!
We greatly appreciate your efforts and interest to prepare use cases on the recognition of micro-credentials in Asia-Pacific (background here). To support the stocktaking effort, we expect to launch a related call for proposals for an organization to partner with UNESCO Bangkok. That organization will help to collect your case studies and fund small contracts, where needed and appropriate. You will not need to apply again as individuals. Thanks to many of you who are cost-sharing with your time and expertise given a limited budget and priority for developing Member States.
We anticipate that the draft case studies would be due by 30 November and finalized by 15 December. If you have an organization in mind that could add value to our work on micro-credentials please feel free to let me know, or forward the call for proposals once ready and online.
We will share the link to an announcement as soon as we have it ready.

Apologies for my delay this week in replying – I was offline on leave having tested positive for COVID (all ok and recovering). Unfortunately, I will not be able to join Libing and colleagues in Japan. Nevertheless, we will continue compiling your great material and inputs for the workshop and forthcoming policy brief, which we will draft with you later this year. We are thrilled to have each of you involved and will circle back about the details of your questions asap.

Dear Friends and Colleagues,
On behalf of UNESCO Bangkok, congratulations! We are thrilled to confirm your invitation to prepare a use case on micro-credentials in your national context. Together with MEXT, Japan, UNESCO is collecting research on definitions and uses of micro-credentials in Asia-Pacific with the aim to better understand relevant national policies, gaps, examples from industry and how to promote fair recognition in line with the Tokyo Convention.
Attached, please find additional background and the research framework with four guiding questions, which remain flexible. We hope to learn from you about how UNESCO's definition applies in your country context (see dimensions attached and Towards a common definition of micro-credentials). To prepare for a joint workshop in Osaka with MEXT, we are collecting draft PPTs (10-12 slides) by 20 August. Following the workshop in Osaka, there will be time to revise and shape the final use cases. A policy brief for Asia-Pacific will be prepared by the end of 2022.
We welcome feedback on the attached framework and timeline based on your availability and national use case. Some experts required a contract and negotiated rates, which we are pleased to discuss separately. We hope to hear your feedback regarding the project timeline and research framework by 12 August.

We are approaching a deadline to help UNESCO prepare a policy brief on micro-credentials in Asia and the Pacific. This effort builds on the Tokyo Convention Committee and global work published recently: Towards a common definition of micro-credentials. With support from the Japanese Funds-In-Trust (JFIT), we anticipate 8 individuals or small country teams from throughout the Asia-Pacific region will be selected and provided a modest contract (estimated 12-15 days of work each).
Could you please help us engage diverse experts and countries throughout Asia and the Pacific?
By 15 July, we hope to receive a brief proposal:
- An up-to-date CV (e.g. for 1 or more individuals involved);
- A brief technical proposal of 1-2 pages discussing the country selected in Asia-Pacific and approach/methodology to undertake the assignment (see the link below);
- A financial proposal (e.g. estimated 12-15 days of work). No-cost proposals are also welcome if funds are not needed.
