About:
Dr. Thirumalachari Ramasami, Former Secretary, Department of Science of Technology, Government of India is a technologist-turned-scientist and a scientist-turned-civil servant. He holds a Master's degree in Leather Technology from the University of Madras and a Doctoral degree in Chemistry from the University of Leeds, UK. He is a renowned global researcher and leader in leather research and Technology, known for his contributions to strengthening Academy-Research and Industry partnerships in India. During his tenure, he initiated policies, programmes, and schemes with the potential for long-term impact on the Indian Science & Technology ecosystem. He is involved in connecting causes of science with resources and public policy support. He presently holds the Nayudamma Abdul Wahid Chair Professorship at the Department of Leather Technology, Anna University. He was one of the longest-serving Secretaries to the Government of India and was awarded the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Chemical sciences in 1993, Padma Shri in 2001, and Padma Bhushan in 2014. He is an elected Fellow of the Indian National Science Academy, Indian Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Sciences of India, Indian National Academy of Engineers, and The World Academy of Sciences.
