• 30.09.16 Access to Info Day celebrated all over the world Celebrations of the first International Day for Universal Access to Information (IDUAI) on September 28 took place in at least 20 countries, kicking off with IPDC Talks at UNESCO's headquarters on September 26. An exhibition to commemorate the 250th Anniversary of the Freedom of the Press Act passed in 1766 was also jointly organized by the Permanent Delegations of Sweden and Finland. The Act is considered the first constitutionally protected freedom of information legislation in the world.

• 30.09.16 New HRC Resolution commends UNESCO's work on the safety of journalists At its 33rd session on the 29 September, the United Nations Human Rights Council (HRC) adopted a new Resolution on the safety of journalists which welcomes the work of UNESCO in fortifying media safety worldwide.

• 30.09.16 IPDC Talks celebrate the first-ever International Day for Universal Access to Information UNESCO marked the first International Day for Universal Access to Information with a prior event organized by the Organisation's International Programme for the Development of Communication (IPDC). Held on 26 September, two days before #AccessToInfoDay, the IPDCTalks was a day-long event themed "Powering sustainable development with public access to information".

• 28.09.16 Kick-off meeting for the Memory of the World Malaysian Funds-in-Trust Project held in Kuala Lumpur UNESCO and the Government of Malaysia have successfully held a stakeholder meeting for the project entitled 'Safeguarding the Documentary Heritage of LDCs and SIDS in Southeast Asia through the UNESCO Memory of the World (MoW) Programme.

• 28.09.16 Self-Directed Learning Tools on Open Access On the occasion of the First International Day for Universal Access to Information, UNESCO announces launch of Self-Directed Learning Courses (SDLs) on Open Access to Scholarly Information and invites expression of interests to collaborate for its worldwide delivery.

• 27.09.16 Director-General condemns shooting of Mexican community radio host Agustin Pavia Pavia The Director-General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova, today condemned the killing of community radio host Agustin Pavia Pavia in the state of Oaxaca on 13 September.

• 26.09.16 President of Ghana John Dramani Mahama addresses UNESCO on #AccessToInfoDay An audience of 100 participants enjoyed UNESCO's advance commemoration of the new International Day for Universal Access to Information in an event held in Paris on 26 September. The event, dubbed #IPDCtalks, saw a dozen dynamic speakers making links between the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the issues of information, media and ICTs.

• 26.09.16 Director-General condemns murder of Jordanian writer Nahed Hattar The Director-General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova, today expressed indignation at the killing of Jordanian writer Nahed Hattar.
