IFAP dedicated session at the International Congress on Archives in SeoulThe global archival community represented by 2,049 archivists from 114 countries attended the 20th ICA Congress in Seoul, Republic of Korea, from 5 to 10 September 2016. In the context of rapid technological change in a new digital age, the Congress participants were also sensitized about major policy initiatives recently approved by international governmental organizations that have significant implications for the records and archives professionals.

"The State of Broadband 2016: Broadband Catalyzing Sustainable Development" report was launched by the Broadband Commission for Sustainable Development on 15 September 2016. The report finds that global broadband connectivity shows strong growth, with 300 million more people connected in 2016 than in 2015, putting the number of people online by the end of 2016 to 3.5 billion. However, more than half the world's population (some 3.9 billion people) remains offline. The report highlights that offline populations, who are now found in more remote, rural areas, consist disproportionately of poorer, minority, less educated, and often female, members of society.

MOWCAP Centre opens at the Asia Culture Centre in Gwangju city, Republic of KoreaThe opening ceremony of the UNESCO's Memory of the World Committee for Asia-Pacific (MOWCAP) Centre was held on 7 September 2016 at the Asia Culture Centre (ACC) in Gwangju, Republic of Korea. More than 80 people participated in the ceremony, including experts from MOWCAP, staff of ACC and the Asia Culture Institute, representatives of the Gwangju Metropolitan City government as well as members of the Korean National Commission for UNESCO.
