Promoting quality reporting on environmental journalism in UzbekistanThe UNESCO Tashkent Office promoted environmental journalism in Uzbekistan by inviting Mr Ludovic Petho (Australia), a documentary filmmaker, operator and journalist, to work with pre-service and in-service journalists in Uzbekistan on environmental issues from 30 November to 9 December 2015.

Following a lively debate at the UNESCO side event, Building on WSIS+10: Putting Knowledge Societies at the Heart of the 2030 Agenda, at UNGA WSIS+10 high level meeting on 15 December, participants agreed that ICTs for sustainable development will at all-times require an enabling environment to build inclusive knowledge societies.

The Global Alliance on Media and Gender organized their first General Assembly with UNESCO's supportWith UNESCO's support, the first Global Alliance on Media and Gender (GAMAG) General Assembly took place at the United Nations in Geneva from 9 to 10 December, two years after the UNESCO-led Bangkok Global Forum on Media and Gender (GFMG) which culminated in the formation of GAMAG.

Director-General condemns killing of camera operator Mustaf Abdi Noor in Mogadishu, SomaliaThe Director-General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova, has denounced the killing of Mustaf Abdi Noor, a freelance cameraman in Mogadishu.

UNESCO is inviting new nomination proposals for inscription on its Memory of the World International Register, established in 1997. Any government, institution, organization, group or individual may submit nominations for the Memory of the World Register. However, priority will be given to nominations made by or through relevant heritage institutions and to documentary heritage under threat. Ideally, nominations should be submitted through the National Commissions for UNESCO or the Memory of the World National Committees in the countries where they are located. In addition, two or more governments, institutions, organizations, groups or individuals may put forward joint nominations where collections are shared among several owners or custodians. Such prior collaboration is strongly encouraged.

Consensus reached on Geneva Framework on Gender and Media International Development CooperationOn 7 and 8 December 2015 stakeholders including Global Alliance on Media and Gender (GAMAG) members, UN organizations, high-level government representatives, regional and international development organizations, private sector, media organizations and civil society organizations gathered at Palais des Nations in Geneva to dialogue about the necessity of international development cooperation on gender and media.

National Open University of Nigeria launches the 1st West African University OER PortalOn 10 December, 2015, Professor Vincent Tenebe, Vice Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) launched the NOUN Portal of Open Educational Resources (OERs) an online repository of the first 40 exiting NOUN courses re-released with the Creative Commons open licenses.

Ancient Asian philosophy to feature in review of ASEAN journalism educationThe ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) will transform Southeast Asia and have a tremendous impact on the lives of the 608 million people who call it home. Journalists will be the ones tell-ing the stories of this transition and journalism education in this sub-region needs to be re-assessed to take this important role into account.
