Developing Open Educational Resources in UzbekistanIn order to contribute for implementation of the national policy framework on universal access to information and knowledge using ICTs and Open Solution, the National Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan for UNESCO organized the National Training Seminar on Open Educational Resources in Tashkent from 22 to 25 June 2015. The Seminar has been held within the framework of UNESCO's Participation Programme on "Development of OER and Preservation of Documentary Heritage in Libraries of Uzbekistan".

Establishing a Global Centre for Excellence for Persons with Disabilities using ICTsAn international expert meeting on the "Establishment of a Global Centre for Excellence for the Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities using Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs)" was held on 29 and 30 June 2015 at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, France. The meeting brought together more than a dozen experts from Brazil, Ecuador, France, India, Ireland, Kuwait, UK and USA, as well as the UN Economic Commission for Western Asia (UNECWA), in cooperation with the Permanent Delegation of the State of Kuwait to UNESCO.

Director-General deplores killing of Indian journalist Sandeep KothariThe Director-General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova, today urged an investigation into the death of freelance journalist Sandeep Kothari who was killed in the Indian state of Maharashtra.

On 1 July, UNESCO Director-General, Irina Bokova, met the United Kingdom Secretary of State of Culture, Media and Sport, Rt Honourable John Whittingdale. She was accompanied by Ambassador Matthew Sudders, Permanent Delegate of the United Kingdom to UNESCO.

Asia-Pacific women journalists outline aspirations, challenges at study launchIn some Asia-Pacific countries, the preference is for women to be "heard and not seen" in newsrooms, Laxmi Murthy, Consulting Editor for Nepal's Himal Southasian magazine, said at the launch of a new report by UNESCO, UN Women and the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) on the challenges women journalists face in Asia-Pacific.
