Join UNESCO-organized sessions at the Internet Governance Forum 2016 from anywhere!The 11th annual Internet Governance Forum (IGF) will be taking place next week from 5 to 9 December in Guadalajara, Mexico. UNESCO will be actively contributing to numerous main sessions and as well as organizing workshops and open fora on Internet governance and the judiciary system, protecting journalists, encryption, prevention of violent extremism and Internet Universality and the Sustainable Development Goals.

Youth speak out at the on Media and Information Literacy Youth Agenda Forum 2016Young people's voices resonated loudly at the Global Media and Information Literacy (MIL) Week 2016 in Sao Paulo Brazil. On 2 November 2016, the Youth Agenda Forum kicked off the Feature Event of the Global MIL Week 2016. The Event was the Sixth Media and Information Literacy and Intercultural Dialogue (MILID) Conference, and it also saw the first General Assembly of the Global Alliance for Partnerships on MIL (GAPMIL).

Human rights and Encryption: UNESCO launches the eighth title in its Internet Freedom SeriesHuman rights and encryption, the eighth title in the UNESCO Series on Internet Freedom, will be launched at the 11th Internet Governance Forum in Guadalajara, Mexico, to be held from 6 to 9 December 2016. This study addresses the relevance of encryption to human rights in the media and communications field and offers policy recommendations for state practice and other stakeholders.

As the seventh title in the UNESCO Series on Internet Freedom, the new publication "Privacy, free expression and transparency: redefining their new boundaries in the digital age" will be officially launched by UNESCO at the 11th Internet Governance Forum in Guadalajara, Mexico, which will be held from 6 to 9 December 2016.

Malian Security Forces Trained on Freedom of Expression and the Safety of JournalistsBamako 26 November 2016 The UNESCO Bamako Office, EUCAP Sahel-Mali and the International Organisation of la Francophonie (OIF), organized, in partnership with the Ministry of Security and Civil Protection, two training workshops on freedom of expression and the safety of journalists from 21 to 26 November. The workshops, held at the Alioune Beye Peacekeeping School in Bamako (EMP-Bamako), occurred following the successful organization of the first series of workshops on this subject in Mali, organized from 13 to 18 June.

Director-General condemns murder of journalist Dharmendra Singh in the Indian State of BiharThe Director-General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova, today called for an investigation into the killing of journalist Dharmendra Singh in the town of Sasaram in Bihar on 12 November.

The 2016 UNESCO/Emir Jaber Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah Prize for Digital Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities will be attributed to Professor Alireza Darvishy (Switzerland) and Tiflonexos Asociación Civil (Argentina) on 2 December in a ceremony at UNESCO Headquarters from 2.20 p.m. to 5.30 p.m., on the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
Both laureates have been chosen for their outstanding contribution to inclusion, enhancing the lives of persons with disabilities through the application of digital solutions, resources and technologies.

Paraguay signs pioneering commitment to journalists' safetyOn 28 November, within the framework of the official mission to Paraguay of UNESCO's Assistant Director-General for Communication and Information Frank La Rue, the signature of a letter of intent between the Republic of Paraguay and UNESCO took place in Asuncion, to establish a permanent safety mechanism for journalists in the country.
