UNESCO and the EU partner to promote Media pluralism and professionalism in the GambiaOctober 6, 2016. Banjul, Islamic Republic of The Gambia
The European Union and UNESCO launched on October 6th in Banjul, Islamic Republic of the Gambia, a four-month initiative to reinforce the capacities of Gambian media professionals. This project is part of a wider Governance Programme of 10 million euro (approximately equivalent to 500 million dalasi) financed by the European Union in the country, which includes several components such as: (i) Access to Justice and Legal Education, (ii) Journalism and Media, and (iii) Public Financial Management.

Palestinian universities to pilot model course on safety of journalistsSeveral Palestinian universities are set to pilot a new syllabus on journalists' safety developed by UNESCO and the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) for the Arab region, following a national seminar organized by UNESCO in Ramallah last week.

Radio for Peace Network promoting peace in South Sudan"We are the instrument of peace," urged Mr Norbert Otieno, Chairperson of Radio for Peace Network in South Sudan, during a training workshop involving fourteen radio station managers from around the country held from 21 to 22 September 2016. "We have the right tool, which is the media, in our possession and we need to use our radios to promote peace by broadcasting peace messages daily and three peace programs weekly." He went on to stress the importance of using radio as a platform for peace, especially now that the country is urging all the citizens to live together in harmony and stop fighting.
