Frank La Rue: The world's documentary heritage belongs to allFrank La Rue, UNESCO's Assistant Director-General for Communication and Information, was interviewed by Yonhap News Agency on the eve of the Jikji Korea festival, which stated on 1 September in the city of Cheongju, Republic of Korea. This international event is dedicated to Jikji, the world's oldest book, printed by movable metal type in 1377, which is inscribed on UNESCO's Memory of the World Register.

2016 UNESCO/Jikji Memory of the World Prize awarded to Iberarchivos ProgrammeThe 2016 UNESCO Jikji Memory of the World Prize was awarded to the Iberarchivos Programme for the Development of Ibero-Ameran Archives, at a ceremony in the city of Cheongju in the Republic of Korea on 1 September, where the programme was represented by its coordinator Martha Marina Ferriol Marchena and by Berta García del Real Marco of Spain's Historical National Archives.

UNESCO publishes report on safety of Journalists in NepalUNESCO has just published a study report titled: Supporting Safety of Journalists in Nepal: An assessment based on UNESCO's Journalist Safety Indicators (JSI). The report documents the national state of journalist's safety and the issue of impunity by providing an overview of the safety situation of journalists in Nepal. It also points out the context of safety and the responsibility of all stakeholders in addressing the issue of journalists' safety in the country. The report is the second title in the JSI series. The first title discussing Kenya was published in June 2016.

The call for nominations for the 2016/2017 edition of the UNESCO/Emir Jaber al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah Prize for Digital Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities is now open. The aim of the Prize is to reward the outstanding contributions of individuals and organizations that promote inclusion and the enhancement of the lives of persons with disabilities in society through the effective, innovative and inclusive application of digital solutions.
