Kabul, 26 May. The safety of Afghan journalists, the role of women in media and access to public information by the people of Afghanistan were the first issues considered today by UNESCO's Director General, Irina Bokova, upon arriving in Kabul for a two-day visit.

Namibia celebrates World Press Freedom Day and 25th anniversary of the Windhoek DeclarationThe United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) in partnership with the Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Namibia Chapter commemorated the 2016 World Press Freedom Day (WPFD) at Zoo Park, Windhoek on Tuesday, 10 May 2016. The theme for this year is "Access to information and fundamental freedoms. This is your right!" The celebration also marked the 25th Anniversary of the Windhoek Declaration which gave birth to WPFD on 3 May 1993.
