UNESCO event in New York to highlight gender equality in the media as sustainable developmentOn 18 March 2016, UNESCO in collaboration with the Global Alliance on Media and Gender will be organizing an international side-event, "Breaking persistent challenges for gender equality in media" at the 60th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The event will debate the actions required to address real gender equality in media. It will spotlight the role of governments and the UN in supporting change and areas in which transformative action should be undertaken by the media.

IPDC 60th Bureau Meeting opens tomorrowThe International Programme for the Development of Communication (IPDC) will hold its 60th Bureau meeting at UNESCO Headquarters, in Paris, on 17-18 March 2016. The goal of this meeting is to examine 59 new media development projects submitted to the Bureau and to decide on key aspects of the Programme, such as its action to promote the safety of journalists, to empower women through the media or to improve journalism education in the world. The Bureau will also analyze the impact of the 71 projects approved last year and implemented during the past few months.
