Young journalists and activists engage in media monitoring in Palestine"Our local media needs a radical change," says Nadeen Alsha'er, a young student at Birzeit University. Starting on 5 October 2015, Nadeen, along with nine other young Palestinian journalists and activists, participated in a media monitoring workshop organized by the UNESCO Office in Ramallah. The training was held within the framework of the NET-MED Youth project and in partnership with MENA Media Monitoring, a Tunisia-based civil society organization (CSO).

The WSIS+10 Review Zero Draft Paper published ahead of the WSIS+10 Review consultations in New YorkThe WSIS+10 Zero Draft Paper has been published as part of the General Assembly's overall review of the implementation of WSIS outcomes. The Zero Draft Paper is based on responses received to the WSIS+10 working document, which was released at the end of August 2015.

The UNESCO Chair on Media and Gender at the Communication University of China celebrated its 10th anniversary on 9 October 2015 in Beijing. The forum also provided the occasion to launch the Chinese translation of the UNESCO publication titled Model Curriculum for Journalism Education: A Compendium of New Syllabi.

Press councils from South East Europe gather in Vienna to discuss media ethics with European peersOn 8 and 9 October 2015, UNESCO sponsored the participation of representatives from press councils in South-East Europe to the annual meeting of the Alliance of Independent Press Councils in Europe (AIPCE), a European network of self-regulatory bodies for press and broadcast media.

Africa Forum: Building capacities of visually impaired African studentsThe 6th Africa Forum, organized by international development partners to empower Africans who are blind and visually impaired, took place in Kampala, Uganda, from 4 to 8 October 2015. "Beyond 2015: Delivering on the Agenda for Persons with Visual Impairment in Africa" was the theme of the Forum, which brought together 400 participants from over 50 countries. The event offered a good opportunity to sensitize participants on the importance of digital inclusion to empower persons with disabilities and the possibilities that it may offer to access information and knowledge.
