UNESCO issues new syllabi to support teaching of journalism for sustainable developmentWith the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) coming to an end, and being replaced with what will be called the 'Sustainable Development Goals' (SDGs), a long-term pedagogical strategy requires that journalism teachers globally begin to critically rethink the correlation between a free, independent and pluralistic media system and the overall process of sustainable development.

"If you are not at the table, you will be on the menu" stated Jan Moolman from the Association for Progressive Communications during a panel of the African School on Internet Governance dedicated to underlining frameworks, principles, charters, and spaces linking internet governance and human rights. The need for the African region to be at the table, and not on the menu, as it concerns issues of internet governance and the necessity to ensure the region is equipped not only as consumers, but as producers on the internet took center stage during the 4th African Internet Governance Forum at the African Union in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 6 to 8 September.

New Guidelines on the inclusion of learners with disabilities in Open and Distance Learning (ODL) are soon to be launched by UNESCO. These Guidelines aim to promote the systematic inclusion and use of accessibility aspects via open solutions (Open Educational Resources - OER, Free and Open Source Software - FOSS and Open Access to Scientific Information - OA) in Open and Distance Learning (ODL). They also highlight the key roles and obligations of educational stakeholders Governments, Institutions as well as Quality Assurance and Recognition bodies in making accessibility a reality for learners with disabilities.

First Regional Pan-Arab Consultation on Open Access to Scientific Information and ResearchSome 70 experts and policy specialists from several Arab Countries Egypt, Algeria, Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Palestinian Territories, Qatar, Saudi Arab Sudan, Tunisia and United Arab Emirates gathered in Hotel Conard Cairo, Egypt from 13 to 15 September 2015 to develop strategies and a road map to implement open access to scientific information and research in the Arab States.

UNESCO publishes a comprehensive analysis of media landscape in JordanOn Tuesday, 8 September, UNESCO launched an in-depth assessment of the media landscape in Jordan. The analysis is based on the UNESCO Media Development Indicators (MDI) and was conducted as part of the Support to Media in Jordan Project, funded by the European Union (EU). The well-attended launching event brought together media stakeholders, the Minister of State for Media Affairs, the international community and civil society.
