Many renowned neuroscientists will participate in the discussions, as well as political leaders, business leaders and NGOs. | | When: Thursday 13 July 09.00-18.00 Where: UNESCO Headquarters – 125 Avenue de Suffren, 75007, Paris Journalists, please register for accreditation here Please find the provisional programme for the conference here | | Neurotechnology has exceptional potential for human development – in particular to solve neurological problems and mental disorders – but it can also threaten human rights and fundamental freedoms. In response to its rapid growth and the lack of regulation of the sector, UNESCO has launched a global consultation to develop a universal ethical framework. UNESCO responded in the same way to the debate on the human genome (1997), human genetic data (2003) and artificial intelligence (2021). This consultation will start with a major international conference at UNESCO headquarters on Thursday 13 July, which will gather all the stakeholders: world leaders, scientists and academics, private sector and NGOs. The conference will explore the immense potential of neurotechnology to solve neurological problems and mental disorders, while identifying the appropriate responses to the threats it poses. Among the topics that will be discussed at the conference are: - Technological advancement and opportunities
- The ethical challenges and human rights implications
- Regulations and policy actions
UNESCO will also launch a new report, entitled, Unveiling the Neurotechnology Landscape: Scientific Advancement, Innovations and Major Trends offering a unique snapshot of the neurotechnology industry at the conference. | | Read more | More about the Conference More about UNESCO's work on the Ethics of Neurotechnology | | Press contact | Clare O'Hagan, c.o-hagan@unesco.org, +33145681729 | | UNESCO Newsroom | All our press releases | | Social media | | | | | | | |
