About: The purpose of these guidelines is to ensure ethical conduct and address emerging ethical challenges in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in biomedical research and healthcare. These guidelines are also meant to provide a framework for ethical decision-making in medical AI during the development, deployment, and adoption of AI-based solutions. The guidelines are intended for all stakeholders involved in research on AI in biomedical research and healthcare, including creators, developers, researchers, clinicians, ethics committees, institutions, sponsors, and funding organizations. The guidelines include sections on ethical principles, guiding principles for stakeholders, an ethics review process, governance of AI use, and informed consent. They have been developed through extensive discussions with experts and ethicists. The guidelines are a living document and will be updated as ethics in AI evolve.

The Globelics network started 20 years ago, established in 2002 with the first international conference in 2003. To celebrate such a special occasion, please join us in these community-wide brainstorming sessions to reflect on the network's past accomplishments and future agenda! These series of events are part of a wider collective exercise to define Globelics research agenda. The voices of emerging scholars will join those of the founders, with representation from all regions.

Workshop 5: Innovation for Inclusive Development

The Globelics community has actively extended the concept of innovation beyond industry to the informal economy, rural communities, social innovation, and women's lives. How has the concept of inclusive development been transformed in the process, how should it evolve, and what influence can it have on action?

Welcome to the March IFLA Newsletter, focused on regional issues.


When IFLA's members agreed on our new governance structures just over two years ago, perhaps the biggest innovation was a much stronger focus on adapting our work to the needs of regions, and making regional voices heard.


As the first ever Chair of IFLA's Regional Council, I have the privilege to see how our six new Regional Division Committees are taking up the challenge of putting flesh on the bones of this mission.


And I am so impressed at what they are achieving!

For stronger libraries, in Niger and Africa: IFLA's engagement around the African Regional Forum for Sustainable Development

A strong team of IFLA representatives attended the 9th African Regional Forum on Sustainable Development, held in Niamey, Niger. Through their presence, they were able to build links and advocate effectively for libraries both with regional and national leaders.

Regulating for rights – IFLA comments on the draft UNESCO Guidelines on Platform Regulation

Following our participation in the UNESCO Internet4Trust conference, IFLA has now submitted comments on UNESCO's draft Guidelines on Platform Regulation. In addition to welcoming the balance found in the document, we also propose improvements, including readier recognition of libraries' role in a healthy internet.

10 years into the Marrakesh Treaty: what does the data say?

With key copyright decision-makers meeting this week in Geneva at WIPO, we are happy to follow up on our report with an overview of country-by-country implementation of the Marrakesh Treaty with an analysis of the data as a whole.

This demonstrates both the effectiveness of international action in driving national change, and the fact that most countries have sought to maximise the possibilities created to provide access for persons with print disabilities.
