UNESCO and the Ministry of Education of the Seychelles held a two-day workshop in Victoria from 4 to 5 April 2016 to determine essential competencies for teachers who are interested in specializing in ICT in Education in the Seychelles.

Within the framework of the Memory of the World Programme, UNESCO organized a two-day training workshop (31 March 1 April 2016) at the Académie du Royaume du Maroc in Rabat in collaboration with the Moroccan National Commission for UNESCO. The meeting gathered more than thirty participants from Morocco, Algeria, Mauritania and Tunisia, representatives of Maghreb national commissions, senior executives and professionals from archives, libraries, and audiovisual heritage institutions and ISESCO.

Colombian security forces trained on Freedom of ExpressionAn increasing number of journalists is being attacked and threatened in Colombia since the beginning of the nineties, with 232 attacks last year, according to la Fundación para la Libertad de Prensa (FLIP). To put a halt on this worsening trend the Colombian organization FLIP has developed a training for security forces on freedom of expression, which is largely based on the training manual developed by UNESCO on Freedom of Expression for security forces. UNESCO talks with one of the initiators of this training, Jonathan Bock from FLIP, who also attended the "News Organizations Standing Up for the Safety of Media Professionals" conference on 5 February 2016 at UNESCO Headquarters.

Messaging, Positioning, and Content: training youth NGOs in Lebanon to better communicateIn the framework of the Media training programme dedicated to youth-led NGOs in Lebanon, UNESCO Office in Beirut organized a one-day workshop to introduce communications professionals and project coordinators working in these organizations on the best practices in terms of managing online communication tools (websites and social media platforms), with a focus on messaging, positioning (branding), and content development.

Freedom of expression and the right to information are fundamental rights that underpin all other human rights and allows them to thrive. Both of these rights play a central role to the reaching of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, in particularly SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions: Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels.
