• 18.03.16 UNESCO brings inspiring young girls and boys to drive technological innovation at FOSSASIA 2016 At a time when the world is looking for new ways to build peace and to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), encouraging young people to innovate and create knowledge is vital in effectively addressing those challenges.

• 17.03.16 UNESCO event in New York to highlight gender equality in the media as sustainable development On 18 March 2016, UNESCO in collaboration with the Global Alliance on Media and Gender will be organizing an international side-event, "Breaking persistent challenges for gender equality in media" at the 60th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The event will debate the actions required to address real gender equality in media. It will spotlight the role of governments and the UN in supporting change and areas in which transformative action should be undertaken by the media.

• 16.03.16 The National Archives of the United Arab Emirates hosts a PERSIST meeting on digital heritage preservation Digital information is fundamentally reshaping the production, dissemination, use and re-use of information and knowledge in society. In order to play a prominent role within the knowledge society, heritage institutions are investing in digital preservation methods and technologies to ensure long-term accessibility to their digital collections and holdings.

• 16.03.16 Debate on Media and Migration at UNESCO The impact of news and social media on the refugee and migrant issue in the countries they flee from and to will be the subject of a thematic debate on 18 March (11 a.m. to 1 p.m.), during the annual meeting of the Bureau of the International Programme for the Development of Communication (IPDC) at UNESCO's Headquarters.

• 16.03.16 IPDC 60th Bureau Meeting opens tomorrow The International Programme for the Development of Communication (IPDC) will hold its 60th Bureau meeting at UNESCO Headquarters, in Paris, on 17-18 March 2016. The goal of this meeting is to examine 59 new media development projects submitted to the Bureau and to decide on key aspects of the Programme, such as its action to promote the safety of journalists, to empower women through the media or to improve journalism education in the world. The Bureau will also analyze the impact of the 71 projects approved last year and implemented during the past few months.

• 16.03.16 IPDC to host debate on the role of the media in the unfolding migrant crisis The movement of persons has become one of the most urgent humanitarian crises of the new century, as people search for safe havens and economic opportunities in developed countries in Europe and elsewhere.

• 15.03.16 UNESCO and You: Participate now in Expert Survey on Media and Information Literacy UNESCO is calling on all experts, teachers, practitioners, or policy makers etc. working in the field of media and information literacy or related fields and programmes to participate in this global survey that can help to improve MIL development.

• 14.03.16 UN Broadband Commission calls for new connectivity targets to support SDGs The Broadband Commission for Sustainable Development's on 13 March agreed on the need for a new set of connectivity targets to help governments harness broadband networks and services more effectively to meet the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) established by the UN last autumn.

• 13.03.16 Broadband Commission for Sustainable Development in Dubai: Decisions on the way forward On 14 March 2016, the Broadband Commission for Sustainable Development met in Dubai, in the context of the Global Education and Skills Forum, to foster for the power of broadband networks and services for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
