Wenhui () Award for Educational Innovation 2016

Innovative Partnerships for Quality Inclusive Education

Condolences on the occasion of the passing of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand

The Wenhui Award sponsors, Jury Members and Award Secretariat would like to join Mr. Gwang-Jo Kim, Director of UNESCO Bangkok, the Asia-Pacific Regional Bureau of Education, in expressing our sincere condolences to the people of Thailand following the passing of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

His Majesty was a vocal advocate for education, noting that, "learning is a never-ending process. Those who wish to advance in their work must constantly seek more knowledge." UNESCO presented His Majesty the Philae Medal in 1991 in recognition of his devotion to rural development, a commitment that never wavered throughout the course of his seven-decade long reign. His Majesty's lifelong commitment to development work, his ceaseless pursuit of knowledge and his advocacy for education are an inspiration to us all.

We would also like to express our appreciation to all the applicants for the Wenhui Award for Educational Innovation 2016, their nominees, referees and supporters for their commitment and dedication in providing and enhancing quality learning opportunities for all, particularly to those most disadvantaged, vulnerable and marginalized.

We are truly humbled to read about the challenges faced, and efforts made, by the applicants and their partners to ensure that everyone, everywhere can live better lives if they are given the chance to learn in school and out of school, in urban or rural areas, with assistance or on their own.

The theme for this year's Award focuses on partnerships. It is clear that no one can do it alone. All forms of support and contribution from partners C governments, academia, communities and private sector C are very much needed especially in times of limited resources. It is indeed very encouraging to find that the spirit of giving and collaboration is very much alive today.

Although, the Jury can select only two winners and a small number of honourable commendations, in their eyes, everyone is a winner just knowing that through their efforts, someone else's life has improved.
